Qualifying Dives can be done either inland in a quarry or in the sea. Obviously each solution has it’s advantages and disadvantages, so the best solution is to do
both! But the trip to the coast from Pretoria and the boat dives required increase the costs dramatically, or sometimes the student is not able to complete all the qualifying dives during a weekend at the sea. That is why Qualifying Dives are normally done inland at Miracle Waters in Brits, or at Bass Lake near Vereeniging. This allows the student to get familiar to the diving environment and getting used to the equipment, while not forfeiting precious underwater dive time having to do qualifying skills in the ocean.
Keeping the differences between inland and sea dives in mind, we prefer to have the student do his / her first sea dive with us when we go on a local dive trip to assist in doing the adjustment. However, should we have an upcoming sea dive trip, we can arrange for part of the qualifying dives to be done inland with the remainder of the dives to be completed in the open water.
